CAN ART EASE THE FLOODING OF VENICE?
For the last five years, the artist Andreco has created a series of sculptural installations and murals throughout the cities of Europe. Paris, Bari, and Bologna all feature his work. Every piece is place-informed - showcasing the specific vulnerabilities of each location to a changing climate. In Venice, where high winds in October of 2019 put three-quarters of the city underwater, Andreco gathers information for his geometric sculptures and graph-like murals, information that he has gathered in his other profession as an environmental engineer. Andreco notes that formulae predict Venice will be underwater in 100 years. Could the consequence of his art suggest an alternate future?
